DESIGN FOR QUALITY – 1st Edition November 2025

The Samothrace Foundation, in cooperation with Lean Experience Factory (LEF), is pleased to announce the online training course “Design for Quality”. This course is fully funded by the Samothrace ecosystem and aims to extend and strengthen specialized professional skills in the sector.

The course is delivered by LEF, a recognized and accredited training institution. At the end of the course, a Certificate of Attendance will be issued to participants who have attended at least 70% of the scheduled lessons and passed the final assessment test.

Course Details

  • Total Duration: 8 hours.

  • Delivery Mode: The course will be held online via synchronous video lessons, with each lesson lasting 4 hours.

  • Schedule: The course begins on November 8, 2025. The lessons will be held on the following dates:

    • November 8, 2025 (from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM)

    • November 15, 2025 (from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM)

  • Cost: Free.

  • Maximum Participants: 25.

How to Apply

  • Eligibility: Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent/higher qualification.

  • Application: To apply, you must complete the online application form linked in the official notice.

  • Application Deadline: November 03, 2025, at 11:59 AM.

Selection Process

After verifying eligibility, a ranking list will be formed based on the chronological order of application submission. In any case, 2/3 of the available places will be reserved for employees and/or collaborators of partner entities or companies of the Samothrace ecosystem, with priority given to employees and/or collaborators of the Foundation’s members. The official ranking list for participation will be communicated by the Foundation, through publication on its website, by October 06, 2025. Selected applicants will be asked via email to confirm their participation within 3 working days of publication.

Course Program

The course is structured to provide an essential overview of the principles and methodologies of Design for Quality (DfQ), an approach for designing robust and reliable products and processes.

  • Module 1: Introduction to Design for Quality: The role of quality in the early stages of the development cycle , “upstream” quality vs. “downstream” control , and expected benefits such as defect reduction and customer satisfaction.

  • Module 2: DfQ and Lean Principles: The concept of customer value as a starting point , the connection between DfQ and the Lean approach (waste prevention, variability reduction) , and supporting Lean tools like Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and Poka-Yoke.

  • Module 3: Key DfQ Tools: Introduction to Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify and assess design risks.

  • Module 4: DfQ in Business Processes: Integration into cross-functional processes (R&D, quality, operations) , its impact on time-to-market and costs , and the role of a quality-oriented corporate culture.
