From 6 October 2025, the Hotel Nettuno in Catania hosted the Advanced School on Sensing Technologies and Innovative Materials (STIM) , an initiative promoted by the SAMOTHRACE Foundation and directed by Sebania Libertino and Silvia Scalese from CNR-IMM.

For five days, PhD students and early-career researchers from both academia and industry engaged with national and international experts through lectures and practical applications, exploring the latest frontiers of sensors and innovative materials.

Topics ranged from advanced materials for sensing — such as nanomaterials, biomaterials, and smart polymers — to material characterization techniques and new detection devices, including biosensors and optical, electrochemical, and wearable sensors.

The program also included insights into application domains , analyzing solutions for health and biomedical monitoring , environmental control of air and water , and technologies for precision agriculture.

It was a unique opportunity to develop new skills and actively contribute to the next wave of technological innovation in the field of sensors.
