We are proud to announce that researcher Claudio Tosto has been honored with the Best Oral Presentation Award at the 6th International Electronic Conference on Applied Sciences (ASEC 2025). This prestigious international conference, organized by MDPI, covers diverse fields including engineering, materials, and environment.
The Award-Winning Research
The presentation, titled “Thermo-Mechanical Optimization of Metal Triply Periodic Minimal Surfaces Structures Made by 3D Printing”, showcased innovative results in the development of advanced metallic structures. These structures are designed to enhance thermal management in power electronic devices using state-of-the-art additive manufacturing (3D printing) technologies.
Strategic Collaborations and Framework
This achievement is a result of high-level academic and industrial synergy:
Research Framework: The study was conducted as part of the PNRR SAMOTHRACE project (Sicilian Micro and Nano Technology Research and Innovation Center).
Specific Sub-project: It falls under Spoke 1 – Pillar Energy, within the research line “Novel additive manufacturing technologies for energy storage and thermal management”.
Industrial Partner: Experimental activities were carried out in collaboration with Crea 3D Srl.
Scientific Support: Thermal-fluid dynamics analysis was supported by Prof. Stefano Mauro.
Excellence at the University of Catania
Prof. Tosto performed the material selection, characterization, and 3D production at the Laboratorio Polimeri e Compositi of the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture (DICAr), under the responsibility of Prof. Gianluca Cicala. The project is scientifically coordinated by Prof. Gianluca Cicala and Prof. Ignazio Blanco.
Out of 579 international contributions, Tosto’s work was one of only five to receive this recognition, highlighting the global impact of the research being conducted within the SAMOTHRACE ecosystem.
